Top 5 Overpriced Downloadable Content
Every now and then publishers get greedy and find ways to nickel and dime customers with dlc. Below is my top 5 list for the content which should have been in a different price range.
5. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness
Price: $19.99, should have been $9.99
I’m a huge fan of Penny Arcade’s comic strip and forum (I usually just lurk around hehehehe. . . WAHAHAHAHAHHAHA . . . sorry about that I got a bit carried away) but to launch their PA episodic campaign at such an exorbitant price is just silly, especially if they plan on releasing four more games, that would add up to $100! The game is enjoyable and the humor is a hit or miss depending if you like their comic strips (a hit with me) but I’d wait for a price drop.
4. Ace Combat 6 extras
Price: Free to 400MS Points, should be . . . in the original packaged game.
I know people will say “AliasRomanian you don’t have to buy the content if you don’t want to, idiot” but I can’t help to think that all this was originally planned to be in the packaged game and somewhere down the line the marketing department (bless their hearts for trying to make more money for the company) decided to sell plane models piece by piece.
I can see the discussion going something like this (note this is not insider information):
Developer- “We have all these awesome planes and Boss fights all ready to ship.”
Markerter Dude #1-”Wait how many plane models do you have?”
Developer- “LOTS!!!!”
Marketer Dude #2- “Hey Markerter Dude #1, you know what this means, time to milk the cash cow.”
3. Any Guitar Hero Song Pack
Price: $6.25 (roughly), should be $2 a song.
Why pay for a pack of songs for only one that you like, this makes no sense whatsoever. It’s like when ordering a soda you have to pay for Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, and Cherry Coke even if you don’t like those flavors (I actually like all those flavors but that is besides the point.)
2. Majority of VC Games
Price: NES-$5, Turbo GrafX-$6, SNES-$8, NeoGeo-$9, N64-$10, All should be roughly $2-3 less.
Why would I pay $5 for a game that was made 20 years ago and I could buy at a garage sale along with 10 other games for $3 . . . This is Madness!!! And this goes for all the other systems as well. Now I would not mind paying $8 for Final Fantasy 3 (6 in japan) or Chrono trigger but those are not on the list.
1. Oblivion Horse Armor Pack
Price: 200MS Points, should have been free!
LOL what ? They chose to have the Horse Armor Pack be Oblivions first piece of downloadable content. They could have added some cool new quests, a monster pack, new dungeons or even a few new weapons. Not to mention that the Xbox360 owners get screwed over for any dlc for oblivion while PC owners can download anything from new skins to a texture overhaul to mods that completely change the flow of the game.

Um, Penny Arcade is like a full game — Just downloadable. You should be happy that it was just $20 for the size of it. I think it’s fair.
i agree with danielle. it’s a 7-9 hour experience with high production values. i’ve paid the full $60 for many games that have clocked in at less than 6 hours before.
just because something is distributed digitally doesn’t just make it “extra content” or a minigame.
